Welcome to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish. On our website page you will find information about the society, our programs and events, how we give help and how to get help, volunteer opportunities, and information on how to donate to the Society.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul provides its members with opportunities to participate in multiple volunteer services directed to the poor, with a unique focus on one-to-one personal services through home visitation, aid, information/referral services, support, and problem solving. Volunteers serve meals, offer social support at our Community Dinners, contribute to strengthening families and are advocates for the poor. The Society is dedicated to the support of, and involvement in, community service.
"As long as Charity, Humility, and Simplicity exist among you; one can say: The Company of Charity is still alive."

If you are in need of help, please contact us by calling our Help Line - 208.331.2208.
The validity of the Vincentian tradition, from the time of our founder, Frederic Ozanam, has always been the personal involvement of our members with the person in need. The friendship and support of the Vincentian, more than any other material gift, has been the means of reconciling people and society with one another and has attacked the roots of the most real of all poverties.Through our Home Visits we work toward the prevention of homelessness by providing direct assistance. This assistance can be used to help with utility bills and rent when eviction is imminent. This direct approach to assistance gives the Home Visitor a unique perspective. This perspective allows us to offer additional assistance that may be needed, such as, food, clothing and furniture.  The Vincentians share, with those in need, the simple fellowship of a listening ear and a caring heart. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul helps all in need. If you find yourself in need of assistance, please call our Help Line at 208-331-2208.

St Vincent de Paul Food Pantry

People need food for many reasons. High fuel and housing costs make it difficult for families to make ends meet. In most people's budget, food dollars are the last dollars spent. If any other crisis comes up, they do not have enough to buy the food they need. Then they come to pantries such as ours for help. .

Food is given to anyone who walks in and no one is turned away. When our Food Pantry volunteers note a frequent visitor to the Food Pantry it signals that perhaps there is a need for further assistance or resource information.

The Pantry is now the 4th Tuesday from 5:30p - 7:00p with a soup kitchen.

As always, we are in need of:
canned vegetables - soup -saltine crackers -cereal -boxed meals-tuna macaroni and cheese dinners- hamburger, chicken or tuna helper canned stew or chili -pancake mix -Bisquick -syrup - pork and beans tortillas-peanut butter -spaghetti sauce and spaghetti noodles.
We receive frozen and fresh food from the Idaho Food Bank and rely on you, our church family for the canned and boxed food we need.

You are welcome to leave donated items the back of the church or the front office during business hours.

Sincerely in Christ's love and service,

Betty, SVDP Food Pantry Chairman
"Volunteers do not necessarily have to have time; they just have to have the heart."

Elijah's Dinner Hour: Community Dinner

Our next Community Dinner is January 12, to be hosted by VFW. It will occur on the second Monday of every month, unless otherwise stated.  The dinner is free and all are welcome!

We do not accept donations at the door. If you would like to donate to this dinner or the Food Pantry, please see parish office or make a donation to the poor box.

Community Dinners are offered with the help of the Idaho Food Bank and local organizations and volunteers each second Monday every Month.  Please contact Stephanie for more information.

Like that of its founder, Frédéric Ozanam, the vision of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul "is to embrace the world in a network of charity."  The Society of St. Vincent de Paul was founded in 1833 and named after St. Vincent de Paul because he was the patron saint of the poor.
