Religious Release at MHHS

Catholic Faith Instruction (CFI) at St. John Paul II Catholic Student Center is a four-year faith formation program for high schoolers at Mountain Home Sr. High School. In CFI, students and their teachers meet to study scripture and learn about the richness of the Catholic Church.

All teens in high school, whether Catholic or not, are welcome to register.
What is the purpose of CFI?
Consistent attendance and regular participation helps students grow in faith and knowledge of Christ and His Church. A major focus of CFI is the intellectual, moral, social, and spiritual development of the students, so they may become Catholic adults strong in their faith. As students study the Church and grow in their faith, they will be well prepared to become active participants in parish life, and both moral and spiritual leaders in the Church and greater society.
Should I sign up for CFI?
One of the most important things CFI provides for teenagers is the chance to recognize and follow God's will for their life. While there can be great questioning and sometimes frustrated searching in a teen's life, CFI can help reveal Jesus "as a friend, guide and model, capable of being admired but also imitated" (JP2's Catechesi Tradendae 38) while not ignoring their great questions about "self-giving, belief, love and the means of expressing it constituted by sexuality."
The Vision of CFI
"Above all, the Passion and death of Jesus - through which, as Saint Paul says, he merited his glorious Resurrection - can speak eloquently to teenagers' conscience and heart and cast light on their first sufferings and on the sufferings of the world that they are discovering."

CFI equips teens to live a life of holiness and find their final destination in Heaven.

Courses

Fall 2016
CT10 - Introduction to Sacred Scripture
Pentacost by Juan Bautista Maíno
The purpose of this course is to give students a general knowledge and appreciation of the Sacred Scriptures. Through their study of the Bible they will come to encounter the living Word of God, Jesus Christ.

In the course they will learn about the Bible, authored by God through Inspiration, and its value to people throughout the world. If they have not been taught this earlier, they will learn how to read the Bible and will become familiar with the major sections of the Bible and the books included in each section.

The students will pay particular attention to the Gospels, where they may grow to know and love Jesus Christ more personally.

Spring 2017
CT15 - Who Is Jesus Christ
God the Father Holding the Deceased Son with a Dove (The Holy Spirit) above. Angels look on.
The Holy Trinity by El Greco
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the mystery of Jesus Christ, the living Word of God, the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity.

In this course students will understand that Jesus Christ is the ultimate Revelation to us from God. In learning about who he is, the students will also learn who he calls them to be.

Emphasis is placed on the application to the student’s lives and articulating minor theology.
